Grand Prize: Fantasy Studios is excited to offer eight hours of recording or mixing time (with one hour of complimentary load-in if necessary), in any of our three studios, with one of our award-winning staff engineers. The winner will also receive a Fantasy Studios tee-shirt and one audio CD of the finished product. We ask that the winner please redeem this prize within one year, and the eight hours cannot be broken up into shorter periods of time.

There are so many great submissions and only 10 finalist slots and three prizes. We wish you luck and hope to meet each and every one of you on Sunday - please introduce yourself!

West Coast Songwriters, Earth Day Marin and Sustainability News & Entertainment invite you to enter the Earth Day Marin 2014 Green Songwriters Contest!

If you agree that great music can change the world and you want to be the musician doing it, this is the contest for you. Here's your chance to help inspire the world to do something now! Your song could:

  • Turn people around on climate change
  • Help California make it through t he drought,
  • Protect animals,
  • Encourage use of public transit,
  • Use renewable energy,
  • Ride your bike or walk
  • Purchase organic, local and sustainable food,
  • Reduce pollution,
  • Make an impact against fracking,
  • Save wild open spaces,
  • or address any environmental issue under the sun....

It's up to you how you impact the world through music! Submit your song today and join forces to help save our planet! No experience is required to enter the competition, only the will to change the world through music!

Songwriters of any age can participate and share their song. (However, if under the age of 18, we require parent/guardian permission). If you're new to songwriting, enjoy the freedom of expression and the joy of making a difference. If you're an experienced songwriter, share and engage with your fans!

Finalists will perform their winning song on stage at the Earth Day Marin Festival on Sunday, April 6th in Larkspur, CA
All prizes will be awarded at the festival.

ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MARCH 31st.

Each Entry Must Consist of the following:

  • Register Online
  • Send us your Music [mailto: info@westcoastsongwriters.org AND hannah@earthdaymarin.org] - Please put your NAME and EARTH DAY SONG CONTEST in the Subject.
  • CD's containing one song only, five minutes or less in length
  • Lyric Sheet, typed or printed legibly (Please include English translation, if applicable) with each entry.

Contestants may submit any digital file, any youtube video to the email link below with a lyrics sheet.
OR
Contestants may mail a CD with only one song and a lyrics sheet. Must be postmarked 3/31 and mailed to:

You must have completed an online entry (payment) form (this means you clicked the link and filled out the payment form and paid the $20 fee to enter) in order for your email entry to be valid.

Note: If you are not already a West Coast Songwriters member go ahead and create a new account if don't have one - you enter a user name and your email and when you click the button it then emails you a password so you can log in and complete registration.

Rules:

  • Each song must be contestant's original work.
  • No song previously recorded and released through major national distribution in any country will be eligible.
  • Songs may have multiple co-writers, but please designate one name only on the application.
  • Contestants may submit additional songs, but each entry requires a separate CD, entry form, lyric sheet and entrance fee.
  • Entrance fee is non-refundable
  • We are not responsible for late, lost, damaged, misdirectred, postage due, stolen or misappropriated entries.

Fantasy Studios is a world-renowned, state-of-the-art recording facility located in the San Francisco Bay Area, originally built in 1971 as a private recording studio for artists on the Fantasy Records label. A number of iconic jazz albums were recorded at Fantasy Studios during the '70s including McCoy Tyner's Trident, Art Pepper's Straight Life and The Tony Bennett Bill Evans Album. Fantasy Studios opened to the public in 1980 with the addition of a fourth studio and became home to many major hit records through the decades such as Green Day's Dookie, Santana's Supernatural, Journey's Escape, among many others.

Still thriving today, Fantasy Studios has recently hosted exciting projects for artists including Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, Bill Frisell and Christian McBride. In addition to music, Fantasy has been a premier recording studio in the Bay Area for the film, television and gaming industries. Recent projects completed at Fantasy Studios include Sir Patrick Stewart for American Dad! and Family Guy, the score to the Bruce Willis/Joseph Gordon Levitt film Looper, and Foley work for the Sony game Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

Mark Le Mon has been a composer, musician, producer, film producer, voice-over, Foley artist, and writer in the San Francisco Bay Area and Internationally for more than 35 years. His career has included tenure as a composer at L.A.-based Fricon Entertainment, a producer at Digital Audio Productions, an artist manager, a composer at Techno-Pop, a partner with Element 151 Films, and a co-founder of Starmaker Entertainment. Mark is the current President of the West Coast Songwriters Association. More about Mark.

Prize winners will be announced on the West Coast Songwriters and Earth Day Marin websites.

Who Can Enter?

  • Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters. HOWEVER, winners must attend Earth Day Marin to perform their song on April 6, 2014.
  • Signature of parent/guardian is required for each entrant under the age of 18.
  • Employees of WCS, Earth Day Marin, Sustainability News and Entertainment and their families, subsidiares and affiliates are not eligible to participate.

Judging:

  • An Executive Committee comprised of noted singer/songwriters, Earth Day Marin and Partners will review each song submitted.
  • Songs will be judged based on melody, composition, subject and lyrics
  • Quality of performance and production will not be considered - but winners will be required to perform at Earth Day Marin April 6, 2014
  • Prizes will be awarded jointly to all authors of any song - division of prizes is the responsibilty of winners.
  • Void where prohibited
  • All Federal, State and local laws and regulations apply.

Notification

  • All entries will be notified by email on April 3rd, 2014
  • Winners must sign and return an affidavit of eligibility/recording rights/publicity release within 24 hours of the notification date.
  • Winners must agree to perform at Earth Day Marin April 6th, 2014
  • The affidavit will state that winner's song is original work and s/he holds all rights to the song.
  • Failture to sign and return such affidavit will result in immediate disqualification and an alternate winner will be selected.
  • Affidavits are subject to verification by WCS and its agents.
  • Entry constitutes permission to use winners' names, likeness, voice for future advertising and publicity purpose without additional compensation for West Coast Songwriters, Sustainability News and Entertainment and Earth Day Marin.
  • CD's and lyric sheets will not be returned.
